New York Times bestselling author Lauren Weisberger will be in Miami this summer to promote her new novel The Singles Game (Simon & Schuster; 7/16/16; $26) with an event on Tuesday, July 19, 8 p.m., at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave. in Coral Gables.
Weisberger became a household name in 2003 when she published The Devil Wears Prada, which has since been published in 40 languages and been made into a major motion picture starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
Her four other novels have all been top 10 New York Times bestsellers, and her worldwide book sales total over 13 million. Her newest novel, already being hailed as “sexy and fun” (PopSugar) is a dishy tell-all about Charlie Silver, a beautiful tennis prodigy who, after changing coaches, suddenly makes headlines on and off the court.
Weisberger, an avid tennis fan, did extensive research, including backstage access to major tournaments including Wimbledon and the US Open, where she interviewed countless players (such as Daniela Hantuchova, who has ranked as high as No. 5 in the world), retired female pros, WTA board members and officers (including WTA president Micky Lawler), and more.
Her novel brings the reader the exclusive behind-the-scenes details from all the Grand Slam tournaments as Charlie jets around the globe, plays charity matches aboard Mediterranean mega yachts, models in photo shoots on Caribbean beaches, walks the red carpet at legendary player parties, and sidesteps looming scandals. What she once did for magazines in The Devil Wears Prada, Weisberger now does for the glamorous and elite world of tennis, taking readers beyond the court for a book that would be at home in any beach bag. Not to mention, the book’s publication is sandwiched between Wimbledon and the US Open, so tennis will certainly be in the news!
More about the book
When America’s sweetheart, Charlotte “Charlie” Silver, makes a pact with the devil — the infamously brutal tennis coach Todd Feltner — she finds herself catapulted into a world of celebrity stylists, private parties, charity matches aboard mega-yachts, and secret dates with Hollywood royalty.
Under Todd’s new ruthless regime, Charlie the good girl is out. Todd wants “Warrior Princess” Charlie all the way. After all, no one ever wins big by playing nice. Celebrity mags and gossip blogs go wild for Charlie as she jets around the globe chasing Grand Slam titles and Page Six headlines. But as the Warrior Princess’s star rises on and off the court, it comes at a cost.
In a world obsessed with good looks and hot shots, is Charlie Silver willing to lose herself to win it all? Sweeping from Wimbledon to the Caribbean, from the US Open to the Mediterranean, The Singles Game is a sexy and wickedly entertaining romp through a world where the stakes are high —and no one plays by the rules.
