Coral Gables city manager Cathy Swanson-Rivenbark has appointed Peter J. Iglesias as assistant city manager for operations and infrastructure. Iglesias joined the city’s executive leadership team effective Apr. 25.
A respected and recognized professional with more than 35 years of complex engineering and construction experience in both the private and public sectors, Iglesias returns to the City of Coral Gables where he was previously in charge of the Structural Division. In his new capacity, Iglesias will oversee Public Works, Development Services, Parking, Historical Resources and Cultural Arts, Economic Development and Community Recreation.
Prior to hios new role, Iglesias was the senior director of Building, Planning and Zoning at the City of Miami and the executive in charge of the City of Miami Computer Systems Integration Program. He is a leading expert in Florida Building Code, Life Safety Code, FEMA and ADA, and a results-oriented leader who works effectively with members of the public, developers, residents, design professionals, city employees and elected officials.
He is highly skilled in the development of state-of-the-art technology, including electronic permitting and inspection software, to help reduce turnaround, increase accuracy, and ensure accountability at all levels of the organization. He will oversee the city’s five-year capital plan including several high profile restoration and construction initiatives currently underway.
Iglesias is the past chair of Governance Board for Miami Wind at the College of Engineering at the University of Miami, a Governance Board member of the Wall of Wind at Florida International University, a member of the Miami-Dade County High Rise Building Committee and a member of the Miami-Dade County Florida Building Code-High Velocity Hurricane Zone Code Committee.
He holds the following registrations: Professional Engineer (Florida and National NCEE Record), State of Florida General Contractor, State of Florida and International Code Council Building Official, and Miami-Dade County Building Official/Structural Plans Examiner/Building Plans Examiner. He is a graduate of the University of Miami (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structures, Cum Laude) and is a long-time resident of Coral Gables.
