Palmer Trinity School’s World History ninth grade students enjoyed an exciting Skype session with the creator of the Big History Project, historian Dr. David Christian.

Big History encompasses the history of the human existence in a broad scale, starting from the “Big Bang” up to the present, and even into the future. This course assesses the major thresholds of increasing complexity that have contributed to our development as a species. It also enables students to ask big questions, generates multiple connections among disciplines, and produces a transformative experience in understanding the scientific origin story.

The session also generated enthusiasm in students because, for the first time, they gain a holistic perspective of our history as humanity.

“Our students were thrilled to have a live conversation with Dr. Christian. The Skype session offered an opportunity to delve into issues related to the role of humanity as planetary citizens,” said Laura Massa, World History teacher at Palmer Trinity.

Dr. Christian lives in Australia and teaches at Macquarie University. He is the author of several books and is a member of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities.
