Plastic surgery enters virtual world in Miami

Everyone having plastic surgery imagines how they will look after their procedure.

Whether its fuller more perky breasts or a tighter chin and neck or even something as simple as softening facial wrinkles, everyone has an idea of what their perfect result would look like.

Now it is possible to see your results before your procedure. And not just see them, but see them in 3D in virtual reality. Patients can see those outcomes in real time with the use of virtual reality software called Crisalix.

“It’s the most exciting addition to our practice we’ve ever had,” explained Dr. Adam Rubinstein, a board certified plastic surgeon in Miami.

“I can show a patient a really good simulation of what they might look like after their procedure. It’s absolutely amazing. Every time a patient looks through the virtual reality glasses the first thing they say is ‘wow’ when they see themselves as they will look after their surgery.”

For Izabella Udler it was a real eye opening experience.

“I was amazed at the level of detail I could see. I spent hours looking through pictures, reading things online, trying to get a sense of what my perfect result would look like. But then during my consultation I got to see my results right there in Dr. Rubinstein’s office, in 3D!”

Using a three-dimensional scanner Dr. Rubinstein scans a patient’s face or breasts during their consultation. In just a few minutes the Crisalix software then creates a very accurate three dimensional image of that patent. Through Oculus virtual reality goggles the patient can see themselves in 3D both before and after surgery.

“Crisalix has been a game changer. We still spend time talking about the possible results, but now I can actually show them how they might look after their procedure. Our patients love it. We even have the ability to print out a 3D model if a patient would like.”

Dr. Rubinstein is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has served on the board for the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal, and currently is at work on his first book, Cut To The Chase: A No-Nonsense Guide To Cosmetic Treatments and Procedures. Dr. Rubinstein has been named as one of America’s Top Plastic Surgeons every year since 2007, and has appeared on NBC, ABC, Fox News, Today, Univision, Telemundo, and many other news outlets.
