Members of the town council and staff received the award.

At the 2017 Safe Streets Summit on Friday, January 27, the Town of Cutler Bay received the Complete Streets Community Award.

According to town staffers, “The focus of the 2017 Safe Street Summit was on implementing the Complete Streets model and highlighting the building blocks and tools for better connected and safer roadways for all.” The Safe Streets Summit hosts nationally recognized experts in the field of Complete Streets, who provide guidance and training to local technical staff and elected officials. At this year’s summit, Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties each selected one individual Complete Streets Champion Award winner and one Complete Streets Community Award winner.

The Town of Cutler Bay won the prestigious Complete Streets Community Award in acknowledgement and recognition of progress made toward the Complete Streets initiative. Cutler Bay’s Public Works Director, Alfredo Quintero, attended the Summit and received the Award on behalf of the Town. Said Quintero, “Our goal is to implement roadway improvements and transportation options that will support the Town’s growth and by implementing the Complete Streets model, the Town is making its neighborhood streets safer for pedestrians and commuters alike. By incorporating Complete Streets on Old Cutler Road and Caribbean Boulevard, the Town is a much safer place for residents and commuters alike.”

We’re told that the Town was recently awarded a grant from the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to create a Complete Streets Master Plan within Town Limits, which will study the following roadway sections: SW 87 Avenue, Franjo, Gulfstream, and Marlin Roads.

We congratulate town officials and staff on their accomplishment. You can find out more information about the town’s Complete Streets Master Plan Public Involvement Meetings at the town’s website at www.cutlerbay-fl.gov or by calling the Public Works Department at 305-234-4262.

Meeting on traffic… On Thursday February 16 at 7:00 p.m., town residents are invited to attend the Second Public Information Session to discuss the new detour plans. “This project will positively impact public safety, ease traffic congestion, enhance pedestrian mobility, improve function and flow of mass transit as well as beautify the neighborhood with streetscape improvements.” The open house style session is intended to provide residents and affected homeowners a chance to better understand the project and discuss the construction process with the Town’s Project Team on a “one‐on‐one” basis. Residents are encouraged to attend and discuss the new traffic plan. For information on the Caribbean Boulevard Roadway Improvement Project Gap #2 contact Public Information Officer Janet Delgado at 305-619-5313 or via email at caribbeanproject@cutlerbay-fl.gov. Information sessions are held every Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Cutler Bay Town Center. Walk-ins are welcome.

Final note: don’t forget that all municipal offices will be closed on Monday, February 20, 2017 in observance of the President’s Day holiday.
