On April 5, 2016, more than 100 guests joined VOS Hospitality and the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce as they officially broke ground at the historical Greystone Hotel located at 1920 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvre during the revealing of new property renderings. This groundbreaking ceremony kicked off the restoration with the architectural design overseen by Shulman + Associates.
The Art Deco property was originally built in 1936 and purchased in 2012 for $7.5 million by a partnership between VOS Hospitality, an owner, developer, and manager of boutique and lifestyle hospitality, and The B Group. The adjacent building at 230 20th Street, formerly known as Santa Barbara, was subsequently purchased in 2014 for $7 million and will be integrated into the redevelopment.
The Greystone Hotel will become a 56,000 square-foot, 92-guestroom boutique property in the center of Miami Beach for international travelers that recreates the essence of Miami’s Golden Era. The first building will retain the original Art Deco façade and historic lobby with modern updates inside while the second building will be partially restored as a second guestroom tower with a five-story rear addition stepping back each floor to uncover 8 unique private terraces. Plans also include a lush rooftop pool and bar, 140-seat ground floor restaurant, and an undisclosed basement lounge.
