Annual Rock-N-Ribs Fest Raises 18K for Children’s Charities

Rock-n-ribs festCouncilwoman Patricia Fairclough deferred some time to Larry Roth, board member for ThisIsForTheKids, the non-profit organization that produces the Rock-N-Ribs Fest annualy to help raise money for select children’s oriented charities, so he could report the good news from this year’s event at the October Special Council Presentation.

Of the four charities that were the recipients of the $18,000 raised were Patches (serving children with special medical needs), Open House Ministries (providing after school care and a Pay It Forward Program), Good Hope Equestrian Training Center (teaches children with handicaps to interact with horses as a means of wellness and therapy) and Swim for Jenny (ensuring that every child has basic water safety and swimming skills.)

“With every passing year, this event becomes more ingrained in our community down here in Homestead,” said Councilwoman Fairclough. “I look forward to this event every year and every year it seems to outdo the accomplishments achieved the year before. There are some really great people running the ship over at ThisIsForTheKids and, as long as that remains true, next year will be even better!”

This year’s supporters and sponsors include the City of Homestead Mayor & Council, James Laurent, Dennis Maytan, Homestead Solid Waste Department, Community Bank of Florida, South Dade News Leader, Homestead Hospital, Homestead Keyes Realty, Steve Degrave, Alton Madison Property Management, Miami-Dade College, Homestead/Miami Speedway, Pierce & Bowen Accounting, South Dade Toyota, Bob Hilson Roofing, The Big Cheese and former Miss Homestead Carla Duque.
