Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough to Lead Homestead Education Committee

Patricia FaircloughWith a long career in local education, first as a teacher and currently as Assistant Principal at Pine Lake Elementary, Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough has been recently appointed to lead the Homestead Education Committee.

The Homestead Education Committee, comprised of educators, business leaders and members of local non-profit entities, was organized to provide solutions to problems that serve as obstacles to the education process. This key committee discusses and develops ideas to deal with complex issues relating to local education, meets with local education leaders and creates programs to encourage learning.

Impeccably credentialed and highly regarded, it is easy to see why Mayor Jeff Porter appointed Councilwoman Fairclough to helm this committee as its liaison going forward. Councilwoman Fairclough began her journey in earnest in the field of education as an honors graduate of Florida A&M University with a bachelor in Elementary Education that granted her a teaching post at the Air Base Elementary Magnet School for International Education right here in her hometown of Homestead, FL. She holds degrees in all facets of her chosen field including a Masters in K-12 Reading Education and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. Before long, her scholarly achievements and fierce commitment to her students delivered her the prestige of being chosen as Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year in 2009.

Councilwoman Fairclough is succeeding Councilman Elvis Maldonado who, after four years of dedicated work and accomplishments leading the Homestead Education Committee, finished his term as its Liaison.

“With a full heart, I would like to thank Councilman Maldonado for the deft stewardship he demonstrated as Education Committee Liaison for the past four years,” said Councilwoman Fairclough. “I look forward to providing counsel along with the many years of wisdom gleaned through my career as an educator to the amazing group of people I have the distinct pleasure of working with.”

Besides her duties serving the public interest as a member of the City of Homestead Council, Councilwoman Fairclough serves as Assistant Principal with the Miami-Dade County Public School District.
