Speed Humps Installation in Horse Country

Commissioner Souto would like to announce that the first speed humps ever installed in Unincorporated Miami-Dade County have recently been installed at SW 122 Avenue between SW 56 Street and 72 Street in Horse Country. This installation is part of a larger road calming project consisting of traffic circles and speed humps throughout the Horse Country Community, which is currently under construction in the area between Bird Road and Sunset Drive from 127th Avenue to ll8th Avenue.

The increasing conflict between the equestrian community and the residents who have always ridden their horses in one of the last rural communities in West Dade, and the ever growing commuting traffic cutting through the Horse Country Community every day in order to avoid traffic congestion on Sunset Drive, Miller Drive and Bird Road, has led to this pilot project to analyze new traffic calming techniques, which if proven safe and successful at reducing high speed traffic, can be replicated in other residential communities.

Horse Country was ideal for this initial project because there are longer distances between homes and the homes are set back from the road at greater distances than most other neighborhoods in Unincorporated Miami-Dade County. Horse Country is one of our most unique communities with not only residential properties but with agriculture businesses like nurseries, farms, and schools.
