The Silver Knight is one of the nation’s most highly regarded student awards programs. In order for students to qualify they must show rigorous academic achievement in addition to a passionate record of service to their school and community

The 2014 candidates from St. Brendan High school are:

Music/Dance: Kyra Ferbeyre — With a passion for dance since she was young, and with the help of St. Brendan’s Key Club, Kyra initiated teaching dance to special need students ages 3-24. She also works at a dance studio as an assistant dance therapist with autistic kids.

English and Literature: Amanda Sandino — The past two summers Amanda has collected clothing and taken them to Nicaragua where she distributes them to the poor. She also has had the opportunity to meet with elementary school aged students while in Nicaragua, and has taught them English.

Mathematics: Maria Alvarez — As a senior Maria is taking Calculus B/C. She is in five honor societies, taking six AP courses and helps tutor students in math after school. Due to her godmother’s passing from bone cancer she has devoted numerous hours helping raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society.

World Languages: Katrina Rosiak — With the help of her godmother, who has since passed, Katrina is the president of Angels of the Missionary of the Virgin Mary. This is a non profit organization that helps those less fortunate with toys, food, school uniforms and meals.
