Friends of the Ludlam Trail invites everyone to be part of the second annual Ludlam Lights, 5-9 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Thousands of hand-crafted luminaries will be placed along the corridor to brighten up the night as members of the public walk through the trail. The free event, open to the entire family, will include music, food trucks, a professional and student lantern design contest, more than $1,000 in prizes, live music from local bands and student performances for your entertainment.

Join in to walk the illuminated Ludlam Trail from South Miami Senior High School, 6856 SW 53 St., beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Designers, artists and creatives of all types are encouraged to design and enter their own lanterns, be part of the contest, and be eligible to win over $1,000 in prizes. Two categories are open: students and professionals.

The Ludlam Trail is the vision of Florida East Coast Industries, Friends of the Ludlam Trail and Miami-Dade County to transform a 6.2-mile abandoned rail line into a multi-use corridor and model for trail-oriented development that will enhance South Florida’s quality of life; provide a direct link to five schools, two transit hubs, four public parks and five additional greenways, and ultimately provide a direct transportation connection between one of the major urban centers and transit hub to the south at Dadeland and a proposed mass transit connection at NW Seventh Street near Miami International Airport.
