Miami-Dade County Commissioner Joe A. Martinez will present a proclamation to the Miami Football Club (Miami FC) for their history-making victory against the San Francisco Deltas to capture the title of North American Soccer League (NASL) Spring Season Champions. The presentation will take place on Sunday, Nov. 5 before the start of the 5 p.m. semifinal game at the FIU Riccardo Silva Stadium, 11200 SW 8th St., Miami, FL, 33199.
“For the first time in their young history, the Miami FC can be called the champions of soccer through their hard work and determination, forever etching this in the memory of every Miami FC fan for years to come,” Commissioner Martinez said.
The Miami FC was founded on May 20, 2015 by Silva International Investments owner Riccardo Silva and former soccer superstar Paolo Maldini with Italian soccer legend Alessandro Nesta, who was brought in as the first head coach. They began to play in the NASL in 2016 and finished fifth overall in the 2016 Fall Season standings. Throughout the first half of 2017 they set new records and milestones as they embarked on a 14-match unbeaten streak throughout all competitions from April to June.
The Miami FC has beat four teams, two of them being from Major League Soccer (MLS), to reach the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and with their 7-0 win over the San Francisco Deltas they captured the title of NASL Spring Season Champions. That win marked the most goals ever scored by the team and the second-largest win margin in NASL history.
