The Marine Academy of Math and Science at Florida International University (MAST@FIU), a full-time four-year, university-based magnet high school will host recruitment and informational sessions for the 2017-18 school year on the following dates: Oct. 13, Nov. 10, Dec. 8, and Jan. 12, 2017.
Meetings will be conducted from 8 to 9 a.m. in Academic 1, Room 194 at the beautiful Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University, 3000 NE 151 St. in North Miami. Students who attend a session with their parents will receive a participation letter for their schools.
MAST@FIU welcomes eligible incoming ninth-grade students from all public, private, parochial and charter schools in South Florida. Students who have excellent behavior and attendance; have completed Honors Algebra I, including the End-Of-Course exam, and Honors Physical Science with a grade no lower than a B, and possess a minimum 3.0 unweighted grade point average are invited to apply online at http://yourchoicemiami.org.
Online applications will be accepted from Oct. 1, until Jan. 15, 2017. Enrollment is limited and a random process will select eligible applicants. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats available, applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
The unique blended high school/university educational experience at MAST@FIU affords students the opportunity to complete all of their high school, Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU in four years. Tuition, fees, and textbooks are provided at no cost. Eligible 12th grade students also may complete their last year of high school as full-time, fully admitted university students at FIU.
MAST@FIU is the only public high school in Florida that enjoys a collaborative partnership with a public university and is the only magnet school in Miami-Dade County Public Schools that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the context of Environmental and Marine Sciences.
