The 500X is Fiat’s crossover SUV.

Bigger than any of its Fiat brethren, the 500X is a five-passenger subcompact crossover with a lot of style both inside and out. With several standard features, attractive trims to choose from and a good safety rating from the IIHS, the 500X has a lot to offer.

For this year’s 500X there are three trims to select from: Pop, Trekking and Lounge. While front-wheel drive is standard and the only available option for the Pop trim, all-wheel drive is available for Trekking and Lounge. Even in the base Pop trim, however, you will find an attractive interior with lots of soft-touch plastics and high-quality upholstery. In fact, the quality of the 500X’s interior materials and its cool styling rivals that of even more expensive subcompacts.

Fiat has kept the 500X’s interior very neat and clean lined with Fiat’s signature big, round gages and controls. You also can opt for its trim to be the same color as its body.

In addition to its topnotch materials and interior style, the Fiat 500X comes with generous standard equipment which includes: driver information display, 60/40-split folding rear seat, auxiliary and USB port, a fold-flat front passenger seat, heated mirrors, Parkview backup camera, child seat anchor system, UConnect with 6.5 navigation, integrated voice command with Bluetooth and ambient lighting.

Optional packages include the Advanced Safety Package and the Front Wheel Drive Lounge Premium Package, which adds Beats premium audio and sunroof. The former includes several handy safety features including ParkSense rear parking assist and lane departure warning.

Even without the extra features, the Fiat 500X is sure to keep you and your passengers safe. It has earned the Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and has received an overall five-star crash test rating from the government.

As for how the 500X does on the road — it has a very pleasing ride quality. Bumps and potholes are rendered smooth in the 500X and you will get pretty decent fuel economy, too. The 500X comes with two engine and transmission options — the first is a 1.4-liter four-cylinder that creates 160 horsepower with 184 pound-feet of torque, if you choose the manual transmission. Or you can opt in for the automatic option with a 2.4-liter engine that produces 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. These engines have earned an EPA fuel rating for 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway and 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway, respectively, which is a pretty decent fuel economy for this segment.

The 2017 Fiat 500X offers all of the fun flair of a smaller sized Fiat but at a much more comfortable size. Nimble and able to take on bumpy roads, the 500X also provides great ride quality while keeping your passengers safe in its stylish interior. The 500X competes with many of the crossovers on the market, especially at its affordable price.

The MSRP for the 2017 Fiat 500X starts at $25,150.
