The public will get its first look at a redesigned Ludlam “Green Trail” during a public hearing in Kendall on Monday, Sept. 21, before the East Kendall Community Council.
The session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Kendall Village Center Civic Pavilion, 8625 SW 124 Ave. as part of the May 2015 amendment cycle to change the county’s Comprehensive Development Master Plan.
As currently proposed, the plan would permit six- or 12-story development at major street intersections for the 100-foot wide “Ludlam Corridor” while creating a bike/pedestrian pathway on the abandoned Florida East Coast Railroad right-of-way.
The plan results from February and March charrettes during which residents in affected districts joined Florida East Coast Realty staff members to provide Miami- Dade County planners with suggestions to create a pedestrian/bicycling trail that could be integrated with compatible development.
Public hearings also are scheduled for Kendall’s Community Council 10 on Monday, Sept. 28 (location undetermined), and for Community Council 8 on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Dr. Martin Luther King Plaza, 2525 NW 62 St.
The 6.2-mile right-of-way extends from SR878/US1 in South Miami to the southern boundary of Miami International Airport with intermittent zones for building designated north of SW 48th Stteet.
“The object was to convert the original Flagler proposal into something workable for both residents and the Flagler ownership,” said Jess Linn, principal planner for the Miami-Dade Urban Design Center.
“Areas for potential development are located adjoining major east-west streets, providing the opportunity to build overhead bridging to maintain trail connectivity,” he explained.
The plan would next go the Planning Advisory Board for an October hearing before reaching Miami-Dade Commissioners in November.
