Quick thinking and resourcefulness led to June’s Officer of the Month honors for Miami-Dade Police Hammocks District Officer Jamelle Gonzalez.
The award was presented on June 26 by Citizens Advisory Committee chair James Blough and Acting Major Miguel A. Hernandez. While on an off-duty assignment for the Hammocks Homeowners Association on Mar. 26, Officer Gonzalez joined an area canvass in the SW 111th Street area with security guards after a street robbery of an iPod by two subjects whose descriptions were given by the owner. When the pair were located several blocks away, Officer Gonzalez noticed an iPod in their possession. She then confirmed its ownership by matching its identification code reported by the victim and the subjects were arrested.
