Youngsters work with recipes that not only sound appetizing, but are also healthy.

In an effort to promote a healthier community and teach children that making healthy food choices can be fun, West Kendall Baptist Hospital, its executive chef Edgardo Llopiz and its culinary ambassador chef Adrianne Calvo are hosting a month-long boot camp for kids.

During the weekly sessions, they will teach participants about food and help them create their own dishes in an engaging and dynamic environment.

The event takes place every Wednesday in the lobby of West Kendall Baptist Hospital where visitors and participants will find cutting boards, brightly colored, fresh ingredients and eager young faces ready to learn and create healthy dishes.

“It’s so amazing to see how much these kids actually know about food,” said Calvo, executive chef at Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar. “I was expecting to ask questions and have to also provide the answer, but they totally proved me wrong. I’m so impressed at how far the food industry has come with our youth.”

Every Wednesday participants will work with three recipes that not only sound appetizing, but are also healthy alternatives to favorite dishes like pizza and chicken salad. The event helps promote West Kendall Baptist Hospital’s culinary initiative that looks to enhance kids’ knowledge to help them live better and healthier lives, and provides them with an opportunity to learn kitchen basics from top chefs.

The event continues on Aug. 3 and Aug. 10. To register for the event, visit http://bapth.lt/29OnRiV.
