The Junior Orange Bowl recently awarded six scholarships to student athletes during the annual Miami-Dade County Public Schools Scholar Athlete Luncheon, where one male and one female student from 37 Miami-Dade County Public Schools were recognized for their athletic and academic achievements. The Junior Orange Bowl awarded four scholarships to students who participated in the sports of tennis, golf, cross country, or basketball and two additional scholarships to students who participated in tennis.

Charles Knight, vice president of the Junior Orange Bowl and Scholar Athlete Committee chair, presented scholarships to the following students: Tori Burstein, TERRA Environmental Research Institute, GPA 6.1, cross country and basketball; James Alexander, Miami Jackson Senior High, ranks in the top 2 percent of his class, basketball; Jasmine Rose, Miami Central Senior High, ranks in the top 3 percent of her class, basketball; Roman Garcia, Miami Sunset Senior High, ranks in the top 1 percent of his class and is a Silver Knight Nominee, cross country.

Charles Knight also presented the Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Scholarship to Alicia Loredo of Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High, GPA 5.2, and to Alexander Setuain of North Miami Senior High, GPA 6.6.

The Junior Orange Bowl Scholarship program annually awards over $10,000 in scholarships, across 15 events, to Florida high school and middle school students and student-athletes.

The Junior Orange Bowl is set to begin its 66th Festival Season. The 2014-15 festival will consist of over 15 athletic, academic, and cultural events for youths featuring the Junior Orange Bowl Parade through downtown Coral Gables.

All of the Junior Orange Bowl festival events are produced entirely by volunteers.
