Kendall Regional MC receives HealthGrades’ 5-Star ratings

By Vivian Cepero….
Kendall Regional Medical Center recently announced that it received a Five-Star rating for the quality of its Orthopedic Care, Stroke Care, Pulmonary Care, Overall Gastrointestinal Care and Critical Care from HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings organization.

The recognition is based on the 13th annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America study released on Oct. 20, which analyzes patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation’s hospitals. A Five-Star quality rating indicates that Kendall Regional Medical Center’s clinical performance exceeds expectations.

“The significance of this HealthGrades recognition demonstrates Kendall Regional Medical Center’s continued dedication to providing the next generation of quality care,” said Mauricio Sirvent, hospital CEO. “Being ranked in the top five in Florida in each clinical category is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and well-being of our patients,” Sirvent added.

Patients are demanding increased public reporting of quality measures, and recent government reform efforts are backing them up. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, more than 40 percent of adults report that they believe there are major differences in hospital quality in their immediate geography, and since 1996 the number of consumers that indicated they would choose a hospital based on a high quality rating over familiarity has increased to 72 percent from 59 percent.

Kendall Regional Medical Center is a 412-bed, full-service hospital providing the residents of southwest Miami-Dade County with 24-hour comprehensive medical, surgical and diagnostic services, along with a wide range of patient and community services. In addition to having one of the county’s busiest emergency rooms, the hospital offers the following specialty care: Heart & Vascular Institute, Orthopedic & Spine Institute, Maternity Suites, “Kidsville” Pediatric Inpatient unit, complementing the successful “Kidsville” emergency department and the newly opened Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
