KRMC files application for more operating rooms, patient beds

Kendall Regional Medical Center (KRMC) plans to expand its facilities with new operating rooms in a four-story building off Bird Road at Florida’s Turnpike.

A plan filed with Miami-Dade County by HCA Holdings, the KRMC parent company, would build a 22,000-squarefoot structure above an existing surface parking lot.

The project is planned to add four operating rooms and 14 hospital beds to the KRMC complex. Timetable for development and construction were not immediately available preceding CDMP (Comprehensive Development Master Plan) approval.

KRMC recently opened a burn care unit and operates one of two Miami-Dade trauma centers with rooftop helicopter access.

To celebrate the holiday season, Kendall Regional Medical Center will present its third annual “Winterland Wonderland and Extravaganza” on Friday, Dec.4, 4-8 p.m., at the hospital’s entrance.

The free community event anticipates 5,000 to enjoy snow fun for youngsters as well as cookies and hot chocolate with marshmallows, musical entertainment on a main stage by 12 Kendall area school groups and holiday crafts and games. Pictures can be taken with Santa Claus during the festivities, capped by a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Kendall Regional Medical Center is located at 11750 Bird Rd. with information available by telephone at 305-223- 3000 or visiting online at
