Enrique Gastón of Kendall recently was selected as one of 15 sailors to represent the United States at the 2014 Magic Marine Easter Regatta Optimist Sailing Event on Lake Braassemermmer in the Netherlands.

The regatta took place Apr. 18-21 and more than 230 sailors representing 11 countries (Netherlands, Great Britain, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Malta, Poland, Estonia, Belgium, Germany and the U.S.) competed at this event, which is by invitation only.

Enrique placed 25th in the Silver Division and was the third top sailor from the U.S. It was a great honor for Enrique to represent the United States at this international regatta.

Enrique, a seventh grade student at Kenwood K-8 Center, has been sailing Opti’s since he was 8 years old as a member of Key Biscayne Yacht Club’s Youth Sailing Program. Not only does he enjoy sailing his Opti, he also enjoys competing at regattas and the friends he has met out on the water.

Enrique has sailed in over 40 regattas around the U.S. including West Coast Championships, Southeast Championships, Mid-Winters in New Orleans, Florida State Championship and Orange Bowl. This was Enrique’s first international regatta.
