March Madness: Nonprofits Compete for $10,000

Communities in Schools of Miami (CIS of Miami) has been selected from over 1,530 nonprofit organizations from across the country who registered to compete in the 2017 Brackets For Good tournament. The competition began on February 24th and CIS of Miami has made it into Round 3 of the online single-elimination bracket-style fundraising tournament.

Communities in Schools of Miami provides educational programs and services that help over 20,000 South Florida students each year succeed in and out of school. The donations made during the tournament will help fund the organization’s dropout prevention programs including tutoring, mentoring and financial literacy to children in grades K-12.

“We are excited to participate in this year’s Brackets for Good tournament. This is a fun and creative way to get the community involved with Miami’s incredible non-profit organizations,” said Elyssa Linares, President and CEO of CIS of Miami.

Indianapolis-based Brackets For Good, pairs with corporate and nonprofit sponsors to host online, bracket-style fundraising tournaments in philanthropic communities around the United States. Brackets for Good has raised more than $2.75 million for local charities since its 2012 kick-off contest in Indianapolis.

Participating nonprofits rally enthusiastic donors to out-fundraise their opponents in order to advance. Through the excitement, localized marketing, and corporate involvement, nonprofits earn increased exposure, gain access to free fundraising tools, and are introduced to new donors. Dollars from donors translate to points, giving participants the opportunity to advance in each markets’ bracket. Competing nonprofits keep donations received during tournament play, no matter how many rounds they advance. The winning organization in each tournament receives an additional Championship grant.
