Nationwide Title Clearing, Inc. Tackles Tampa Bay Hunger With Food Drive—Donates 100 Boxes of Cereal to FEAST Food Pantry

unnamedNationwide Title Clearing, Inc., (www.nwtc.com) (NTC) a leading service provider for the residential mortgage industry, regularly takes part in philanthropic initiatives, particularly those which affect the communities in which its employees reside. Because Tampa Bay is an area where hunger is an issue, NTC recently took steps to ensure that local children are appropriately fed throughout the year, beginning with a nutritious breakfast. NTC held a food drive in which 50 employees donated 100 boxes of dry cereal to the Food Emergency and Services Team (FEAST) of Palm Harbor.

While food bank donations are often abundant during times of disaster, NTC officials say local residents must realize that hunger is a constant, yet depreciated problem. According to data collected between 2009 and 2011, over 73,000 children in Tampa Bay often go without essential meals, leaving them deficient in basic nutritional needs (1). While FEAST distributes 76 tons of food annually, the donation levels do not fully meet the demand of the community—FEAST director Walter Anderson specifically requested boxes of cereal as it was in short supply. NTC’s cereal drive began on October 22, 2013 and ended on November 8, 2013, in an effort to help bolster FEAST’s holiday season supplies. NTC’s CEO, John Hillman, said that the cereal drive focused on generating local awareness of hunger’s prevalence and integrating the message of breakfast being an essential part of healthy living.

“Fresh food is important for organizations like FEAST, but nonperishables are critical and are often easier to donate,” said Hillman. “Cereal is a much needed source of nutrition and requires such a minimal effort—we encourage our employees to contribute on regular basis as hunger is an ongoing issue in our community.”

Hillman says NTC will continue its food aid effort by holding two donation drives per year. In addition to the cereal drive, NTC remains involved in helping the community by hosting and attending affairs such as blood and toy drives, as well as local fundraising events for cancer research and similar efforts.

NTC employees regularly join community events and the company has participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Palm Harbor event for four consecutive years, amassing a collective lifetime fundraising total of over $43,000 to date. NTC specializes in building customized service solutions, such as lien release services (www.nwtc.com), document retrieval, and assignment services. Its clients include eight of the 10 largest residential mortgage servicers in the country.
