Officer Santiago recognized for efforts in stabbing case

Officer Santiago recognized for efforts in stabbing caseMiami-Dade Police Kendall District’s Citizens Advisory Committee member Priscilla Rivera and Maj. Christopher Carothers honor Officer of the Month recipient Yolanda Santiago on June 26 for her role in detaining a male arrested in a stabbing incident on Mar. 21 at the Coral Reef Nursing Home, 9869 SW 152 St. Officer Santiago was commended for her outstanding performance, holding a suspect at gunpoint before a “frightened hospital staff” treating the victim until homicide detectives arrived at the scene. They later charged the male with first-degree murder after the stabbing victim died of injuries to the neck, inflicted with a knife that Officer Santiago held as evidence before fellow officers arrived at the scene to assist her.
