Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade to get FRPA Corporate Support Award

The Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade is the recipient of Florida Recreation and Park Association’s (FRPA) Corporate Support Award for fundraising and development benefiting Miami-Dade parks and parks programming.

Parks Foundation Board president Dick Anderson will be presented the award during FRPA’s Annual Conference Awards Banquet on Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Hilton Orlando.

The non-profit 501(c)3 was founded in 2004 and has worked to foster the recreational, educational, environmental and cultural life of the Miami-Dade County community by encouraging and soliciting support from corporations, foundations, and individuals independent of government to support Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces.

The Parks Foundation has secured scholarship funds, enabling student participation in Fit2Play out-of-school and summer camp programs, provided free learn-to-swim lessons through the Swim for Jenny Memorial Fund, and organized and promoted numerous family-oriented special events, including movie nights, music and food festivals, health and wellness- related initiatives, and volunteer service projects which create new generations of park champions and stewards.

“Parks and park programs, particularly programs that serve children, are essential to every community,” Anderson said. “Every child deserves access to the safe places, wide open spaces and sense of community that parks and park programs provide.” For more information on the Parks Foundation, visit www.liveaparklife.org.
