School Art for Mankind: Raising awareness through student art

Street Art for Mankind, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending child slavery through art, has announced School Art for Mankind, an art contest supported by Miami Dade Public Schools where Miami children from public and private schools have the opportunity to deliver a powerful message of freedom to the world.

Kids around Miami-Dade County will unite to raise awareness on a critical issue in our modern world — child labor.

Now through Nov. 18, Miami-Dade school children in grades 4-8 have the opportunity to create their own art masterpieces to express their vision of what a child-friendly world looks like. All participating principals and art teachers are invited to join the opening ceremony.

The three winning masterpieces will be displayed at Street Art for Mankind in February where the children will have the opportunity to meet the Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi who has been fighting for children’s rights for more than 30 years and and Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.

“The kids will work in teams of four to eight to collaborate and create a masterpiece made out of eight to 16 shoeboxes” explained Audrey Decker, co-founder of Street Art for Mankind “We strongly believe that children coming together to create art has the power to inspire the world, ultimately creating change. And the contest is a great way to promote #ValuesMatterMiami. We cannot wait to see their creativity in action.”

All Miami-Dade schools have the opportunity to join this contest and be part of the movement. They can submit all forms and final projects electronically by Nov. 18. To learn more about the School Art for Mankind contest feel free to visit http://streetartmankind.org/schools/.
