St. Brendan Medical Sciences students explore the ecosystem of Florida Keys

Taking part in dissecting a shark are (l-r) Lauren Cervantes, Daniella Piloto and Jessica Lagares.

St. Brendan High School’s Medical Science Academy students recently experienced local marine life and explored the ecosystem up close in the Florida Keys.

They visited the Turtle Hospital in Marathon and spent the weekend snorkeling and in tide pools collecting specimens of invertebrates such as starfish, sea urchins, sea hares, and sea cucumbers for study. Students also dissected a Southern Stingray and a Bonnethead Shark.
