A new bike path in the West End will honor the memory of a Good Samaritan who lost his life while trying to help strangers.

The Miami-Dade County Commission recently approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Juan C. Zapata that designates a new bike path on SW 157th Avenue as the Eduardo Hernandez Memorial Trail. The path, which is in the final steps of completion, runs between Bird Road and 59th Terrace.

On April 13, 2014, Eduardo Hernandez was killed tragically by a drunk driver when he stopped to provide assistance at the scene of an accident at the intersection of SW 157th Avenue and 56th Street.

“The designation of this bike path pays tribute to a man who lost his life while trying to help complete strangers,” Commissioner Zapata said.

“It will serve as a testament to the kind of person we should all aspire to be and a reminder of the devastating consequences that drunk driving can have.”
