The Helen Venero Artist Lecture Series presented Ryan Trecartin on Nov. 19 to a packed auditorium at Florida International University’s Frost Art Museum, followed by a reception with the artist.

Heralded by The New Yorker’s Peter Schjeldahl as “the most consequential artist to have emerged since the 1980s,” Trecartin’s work is seen as a watershed for its visionary understanding of the profound shifts in culture and social interaction that are defining our current moment.

With a slate of exhibitions of new and recent work (created with his principal collaborator Lizzie Fitch) currently on view throughout the world and the upcoming New Museum Triennial which he is cocurating with Lauren Cornell, the artist discussed a range of his projects with FIU’s assistant professor of contemporary art Alpesh Kantilal Patel.
