West End Open tennis tourney begins Oct. 17 at Tennis Villas

The fall segment of the Kendall-based, year-around “West End Open” tennis tournament opens play on Oct. 17 at Tennis Villas, home of five new courts at 9175 SW 147 Ave.

Singles play in USTA levels 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 and doubles combining 7.0-8.0 categories are open for registration through the first day of play, according to Juan Mora, organizer of the competition, now in its third year. Gustavo Triano, Villas tennis pro, is coach for the tournament. Individual registration fees are set at $20 for each division and $30 for singles and doubles combination.

“With its start on Saturday, Oct. 17, play will continue until the following Oct. 24- 25 weekend when semifinals and finals are scheduled,” Mora said.

The October tournament is the fourth in the 2015 series that has attracted participants from varied Miami-Dade areas, including Brickell, Coral Gables, Doral, Sweetwater, Pinecrest, Hialeah, Miami Lakes, South Miami and Miami Beach.

Previous tournaments have seen more than 100 players per event in different levels with the last of the 2015 series expected to bring as many or more to challenge for prize awards that include first through fourth place in each division.

“We have different sponsors from our community that have tremendous success, promoting where they are located, what products they offer, hours of operation, and —the best — gaining more customer from our community and different cities,” said Mora, who invites all area companies to inquire about the tournament’s sponsorships and direct marketing programs.

“These nine days give the community and sponsors a chance to enjoy the fun and family atmosphere with an exciting and competitive atmosphere,” said Mora, a real estate professional and international business advisor with a special passion for tennis.
