The bike ride was led by the Miami Dolphins’ mascot.

A stream of smallfry and early teen bikers, joined by the Miami Dolphins’ mascot, rode through a West Kendall neighborhood, school bound for Winston Park K-8 Center to mark “Bike Safe to School Day” on May 8. They were escorted by a Miami-Dade Police Kendall District unit.

Under the leadership of physical education instructors Rick Danese and Sheri Horvitz, all bikers received tuneups for their bicycles, Tshirts, bike lights, water bottles, helmets and granola bars, compliments of Mack Cycle Shop and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine “BikeSafe” program.

“It was a beautiful, sunny morning for a great event to promote health and enjoyment of children, and I can’t wait until next year,” said Maria Diaz, PTSA treasurer.
