On Saturday, July 28, 2012, the Mayor’s Community Policing & Crime Watch Committee joined efforts with the City of Homestead Police Department’s Community Policing at the Hurricane Awareness/Community & Business Fair held at Sedano’s Supermarket.
The event was a Hurricane Safety Awareness event for the citizens and businesses of the City of Homestead. A Community & Business Fair was also held in conjunction with the event. Free information on various police services was available to the community. Free food and refreshments were provided by Sedano’s Supermarkets, Shakey’s Pizza, Portofino Coal Fired Pizza, Pepsi Cola Company, and Snapple. Car displays by Armstrong Ford, Homestead Chevrolet and South Dade Toyota were on the premises as well as tent set-ups by Dade Medical College, Vision Works of Homestead, and TD Bank.
Committee members from the Mayor’s Community Policing & Crime Watch Committee approached citizens to inform of the Committee’s role in the community. The Committee members handed out Committee brochures and palm cards containing crime fighting tips, important numbers, and Committee information. The Committee members want to establish a strong presence in the City and will be hosting other future community outreach events.
The next Mayor’s Community Policing & Crime Watch Committee meeting will take place on Thursday, September 6th at 6 pm. at the Oasis Clubhouse. Ms. Carmen Caldwell, Miami Dade County Crime Watch Specialist, and Officer Cliff Patterson, Homestead Police Department’s Community Policing Officer, will also be present.
The Committee will be meeting throughout City neighborhoods to address specific problems. They will also be conducting community walk-throughs to assess specific crime watch needs in each community in an effort to assist our police department in the fight against crime.
