The 2016 Women Making History Award was presented to Miami-Dade State Attorney, Katherine Fernandez Rundle, Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the chic Lilt Lounge at the Epic Hotel. The Miami-Dade Florida Association of Women Lawyers presents the prestigious award annually to recognize the trailblazing work of outstanding women, whose leadership throughout the community exemplifies empowerment and perseverance and promotes women’s issues.

Ms. Fernandez-Rundle states, “Always striving to make this community better, particularly for our children, has been my goal as Dade State Attorney.  Finding creative ways to improve our community and make it a safer place to live and raise our families has meant developing approaches to prevent our youth from slipping into crime, drugs and human trafficking.   As someone who developed the first criminal court efforts to combat Domestic Violence, I know that violence in the home has a direct link to violence on our streets.  I am proud that our pioneering efforts now, are fundamental steps in combating Domestic Violence in our courts and in our community.”

In honor of Ms. Fernandez Rundle’s tireless efforts to help women and children in need, a portion of the proceeds has been donated to Women of Tomorrow.

Additional supporting sponsors were Boardroom Communications, Conrad & Scherer LLP, Diaz Briscoe Medina, P.A., Greenberg Traurig, P.A., Hickey Law Firm, P.A.,  K&L Gates LLP, Legal Edge Services, Office Edge, and Robbins-Udel Images.
