On Saturday, June 2nd, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce will recognize Gary R. Gerson, Founding Partner of Gerson, Preston, Robinson, and Company, P.A., for the City National Bank Hi-Tides Outstanding Achievement Award at its 90th Annual Dinner Gala and Silent Auction. This year’s event will attract over 1,100 of the most influential Miami Beach business professionals to celebrate the success of local icons for their outstanding contributions to the Miami Beach community.

The City National Bank Hi-Tides Outstanding Achievement Award was created last year, based on the phrase, “High-Tides raise all ships” and the Beach High Hi-Tides, to be presented to an outstanding business professional, who began in Miami Beach, and whose achievements have extended into assisting the greater economy. The Hi-Tides is also the mascot of Miami Beach Senior High School from where Mr. Gerson graduated.

“Gary is a great role model and pillar of the community,” said Miami Beach Chamber Chairman, Jason Loeb. “We are pleased to recognize him at this year’s Gala for he sets an example for entrepreneurs by representing the importance of education, business and philanthropy.” With more than 40 years of experience in public accounting, taxation, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, financial institutions, government and not-for-profit organizations, Mr. Gerson has generously and consistently given back to the community. He has contributed his time and considerable financial resources to many charitable, civic and educational organizations through the City of Miami Beach. He is a former President and Chairman of the Board of the Mount Sinai Medical Center and served as Chairman of the Board of Israel Bonds Organization of South Florida for 10 years.

Mr. Gerson believes he owes much of his success to the outstanding education he received at the University of Florida (UF). He graduated with high honors earning his Bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1954 and a Master’s degree in business administration a year later. At age 21, he distinguished himself then as the youngest CPA in the country. His tremendous dedication to education continues to drive him today, which makes him an honorable business and community leader in this City. Mr. Gerson firmly believes that no student should be denied an education purely because of financial need and in this vein he continues to contribute many need-based scholarships to the University of Florida and other state universities.

To salute him as a role model for generations to come, the University of Florida named its new accounting hall after Gary Gerson, who in 1994 was the recipient of the University of Florida Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 2002, he was inducted in the UF’s Athletic Hall of Fame for his role in establishing the university’s athletic counselor training program. Mr. Gerson is also a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees and sponsors the Gary R. Gerson Lecture Series that brings outstanding scholars to the university.

The Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce is honored to present the City National Bank Hi-Tides Outstanding Achievement Award to Gary R. Gerson at the 90th Annual Gala for all of the dedication he has shown to this community. Other honorees include Tony Goldman, Goldman Properties for the Lifetime Achievement Award, Steven Sonenreich, Mount Sinai Hospital for the Citizen of the Year Award, Jose Abreu, Dir. Of the Airport for the Excellence in Tourism Award, Dr. Rosann Sidener, Principal of the Miami Beach Senior High School for the Distinguished Service Award.
