In doing business — Events Matters

By Valerie Rasken….
Events help businesses seeking to personalize their local presence, brand their identity, and engage in positive community outreach. When done effectively, businesses that participate in events are positioned apart from their competitors, leaving a lasting impression in their markets.

The Emerging Leadership Council of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, whose mission is to work to promote, encourage and generate relationships through strategic introductions in addition to their leadership roles, coordinated a panel of industry leaders last month to discuss how to grow business through hosting your own events, the value of partnering with charities, seeking corporate sponsors and how to save money by participating in existing events that speak to your target audience.

The Events Matters panel was composed of Jacquie O’Malley, Group VP of Development, United Way; Sabrina Badeaux, Owner, Chez Badeaux Salon; Caterina Falcone, Marketing Director, Miami New Times; and Felipe Basulto, TD Bank all industry leaders who shared their personal successes in utilizing events to advance their businesses. Each provided a unique perspective on Events as a way to build traffic, promote a cause, or find marketing exposure.

This seminar was held at Gemma Lounge on Lincoln Road and attended by well over 70 people. Each panelist was able to answer questions about their individual businesses and the important of events and marketing from their own perspective. Whether a big non-profit, small business owner, media outlet, or a corporate entity, it is important for each business to not only sponsor events, but host and partner with other businesses in the community and the attendees were able to get an insider’s perspective on the why and how to do so effectively.

The event was successfully Chaired by Alexis Guillen from the Miami New Times with support from David Wrubel, CPA, and Brenda Vargas, AXA Financial Advisors and Chair of the Emerging Leadership Council. Gemma Lounge, as special event venue, graciously hosted the event which was catered by Centerplate.

The Emerging Leadership Council develops and presents a series of “Matters” seminars to assist businesses with educational opportunities by industry leaders which are held throughout the year.
