Tired of walking or running alone? On September 10, 2012, the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department kicked off our newest health initiative for adults (all ages welcome) with our FREE walking, running clubs and Half Marathon Training. Getting support from others by exercising together can actually help you stick with your health and fitness goals. These new clubs are designed to promote a more active and healthier lifestyle through a social and fun atmosphere.
Joining a walking group is one of the best ways to start and maintain a healthy walking habit. Come out and join the Miami Beach walking program, “10,000 Steps 2 Health” and earn monthly rewards with our miles program. Take your first steps with us to a healthier lifestyle with this fun and social activity. This program meets five times a week with various routes throughout Miami Beach.
For the runner at heart, the FREE Running Club is another great opportunity to enjoy a great social running setting, meet with fellow runners and best of all get in shape fast. Distance is flexible, one to five miles and the club meets three times a week.
“We are very excited to be offering these new programs to the public. We feel strongly about the health and well-being of all our residents and visitors alike. As a runner and seven (7) time marathon finisher, I know firsthand how important it is to run, walk or train in a group setting.” said Andy Plotkin, City of Miami Beach Parks & Recreation Facility Manager.
Ever dream of running a marathon, crossing the finish line and placing the finisher’s medal around your neck? You can, commit yourself to the Miami Beach Parks and Recreation newest training program; this free program will guide you for 14-weeks leading you into the ING Miami Half Marathon. Novice and Beginner runners are welcome. This program will take you to the next level and help you achieve a personal goal that will last a lifetime. The program will meet once a week to complete the trainings “long run.” Half Marathon participants are encouraged to participate in the free Miami Beach Running Club.
