The Chamber will be a hosting an important luncheon to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Pillar Trustees Program on October 14 at the James Royal Palm from 11 to 1:00 pm. As a past Chair of the Pillar Board, I’m excited to recognize the hard work and service of previous Chairs of the Board who will be in attendance and honored at the event.
The luncheon will also honor the life of past Chairman of the Chamber Leon A. Manne, who recently passed away in December of 2013. Manne was a beloved icon in the Miami Beach Community and notably started the Honoree Lifetime Trustees, which I and my father Barton S. Goldberg are a part of. These dedicated trustees helped purchase the land the Chamber’s office sits on and retired the Chamber’s 1973 mortgage. Manne had been a longstanding member of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, serving as Vice President in 1976 and then Chairman the following three years. He made his years on Miami Beach extremely successful, participating in various boards and organizations including the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association, Exhibit Designers and Producers Association, Board of Directors for Bass Museum and the Budget Advisory Board for the City of Miami Beach. In 2013 he received the recognition of his peers at the Chamber by being given the “Past Chairman Award” following recognition as a “Man of the Year” in 1988 by the Chamber.
As the Chamber’s highest level of membership, Pillar Trustees strive to energize economic growth on Miami Beach and to provide leadership for more effective community involvement. The advancement of education, the support of progressive government, and the initiation of projects and ideas that benefit businesses and residents are the primary goals of the Pillars.
As part of the anniversary, the Chamber will be accepting donations to help pay down the Chamber’s current mortgage. If you have any questions or would like to donate, contact the Chamber at 305-674- 1300.
