Orange Drive a Success in Miami Beach

Vice Major Gongora and Orange Drive Representatives at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The official Orange Drive kick-off took place on December 30th alongside the beautiful beaches of 9th and Ocean Drive. Vice Major, Michael Gongora, was present to announce the beginning of the first year of Orange Drive with a proclamation and a ribbon cutting ceremony. Closed to vehicle traffic, this three day event filled with festivities led up to the annual Orange Bowl in Miami.

Orange Drive is an intellectual property developed by Union Square Agency and the Orange Bowl Committee. The inaugural three-day festival had an extensive line up of entertainment for all spectators.

The events were as follows:

  • ‘Noon Year’s Eve Kids Countdown’: Took from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on December 31. The event was hosted by Radio Disney. Kicking Daisies, a punk/pop/rock band and winner of Radio Disney’s N.B.T. (Next Big Thing) also performed.
  • ‘Jam on the Sand’: Took place from 9 p.m. – 2 a.m. on December 31. Leona Lewis and Natasha Bedingfield performed.
  • ‘En Vivo Latin Festival’: Took place from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. on January 1. Gilberto Santa Rosa, Albita and Hansel y Raul also performed.
  • Gridiron Bash Pep Rally’: Took place from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. on January 2. Entourage’s Adrian Grenier and his band the Honey Brothers performed, along with comedian Adam Carolla. Both Orange Bowl school bands also competed against one another in a “Battle of the Bands”.

The lineup of activities and performances attracted both residents and tourist from all over the world between 6th street and 9th street of South Beach. Miami Beach is excited to see the lineup for next year’s Orange Drive.
