Most of my friends that reside in Dade County rarely find the need to venture north to Broward County. We occasionally get perilously close to the Broward County line when we go to a Dolphins game, and we might have snuck across the line a time or two hunting for bargains at Sawgrass Mills. Now it is rumored that the Florida Panthers hockey team and Boyd Gaming have joined forces to merge hockey and slots together at the Bank Atlantic Center just across the street from the shopping paradise known as Sawgrass Mills.
This is a novel concept and would surely be a shot in the arm for the Panthers who reside in sports anonymity in south Florida.
The term “shoot to win” takes on a whole new meaning when free play is on the line. This marriage of hockey and slots at that location is likely to be embraced by local residents as well as local and county governments. I suspect a few more Dade residents might be venturing north if the deal gets done.
It does make you stop and think of how powerful a similar partnership in Dade between the Heat and slots might be!
