Travel Weekly applauds Miami Beach App with Magellan Awards

Travel Weekly applauds Miami Beach App with Magellan AwardTravel Weekly announced the winners of the 2014 Magellan Awards in October, with the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA) conquering the “Destinations | Mobile App” category. Christened as the Miami Beach Information (MBI) app and the first of its kind for a major U.S. city, the application provides a wealth of resources at the user’s fingertips that set a new standard for travel applications.

With entries from across the U.S. and around the world, the Magellan Award winners represent the best in the travel industry and salute the outstanding travel professionals behind it all. The impressive MBI app, suitable for Apple, Android, Blackberry and tablet users, was titled the ‘Gold Winner’ in its category, beating major competition such as the silver-winning Hotwire app. Notable features allow visitors and residents to easily find and connect with local businesses, restaurants, points of interest and events around the Miami Beach area. Additionally, extensive detail is available by category; in addition to finding an accountant near their location, tourists and locals can select a hotel based on its architect or a restaurant based on the noise level of its dining room.

“Selected as a winner for the Magellan Award is an incredible achievement and affirms that our app is ideal for our users,” says Grisette Marcos, Executive Director of Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority. “We want MBI to assist on a broad spectrum, from transportation, nightlife, sports and beyond, so users can easily navigate and explore the attributes of Miami Beach.”

“We are proud to have collaborated with Miami Beach on this ground-breaking app,” said Solodev CTO Shawn Moore. “This app gives Miami Beach the power to manage data, make changes and keep users engaged for years to come. The Magellan Award validates the need for destinations to have a centralized Open Data API and it’s fitting that Miami Beach, one of the world’s top destinations, has such a tool.”

“We are humbled to receive such an esteemed award,” says Steve Adkins, Chair of the MBVCA. “We are proud to know that our collaboration efforts to positively impact our city are receiving credible recognition.”

The MBI app was highlighted in the October 20th issue of Travel Weekly as a Magellan award winner. The Miami Beach Information app is available for download for Apple, Android and Blackberry users.
