September is National Yoga Month (a national observance designated by the Department of Health & Human Services), designed to build awareness of yoga’s proven health benefits and provide people with actionable guidance and tools to enhance their own well-being.

Below is a list of locations offering free or low-cost yoga classes in September in celebration of National Yoga Month.

IN MIAMI

  • YOGA A LA ESPAÑOLA

Enjoy a re-energizing and recharging refuge from summertime stress. Join “Yoga a la Española,” Synergy Yoga’s new Saturday morning yoga classes on Española Way, held every Saturday from 9-10 a.m. A certified yoga instructor from Synergy Yoga, Miami Beach’s oldest yoga studio, will guide participants of all skill levels through 60 minutes of Vinyasa yoga, a therapeutic and meditative practice that relieves stress and increases flexibility.

The classes are free and open to the public. From beginners to experienced yogis, participants of all levels and ages can attend. To join, participants are encouraged to bring their own mat to the main entrance of Española Way, located between 14th and 15th Street and Washington Avenue, and meet on the street in front of El Paseo Hotel. Mats will also be available for rent for $2. Limited quantity available.

  • NAMASTE AT THE NATIONAL HOTEL

The National HotelCollins Avenue’s elegant and cinematic Art Deco hotel, is presenting a new way to “Namaste” by hosting poolside sweat and stretch yoga sessions for locals and hotel guests.  The 75-minute classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., and every Saturday and Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Led by international instructor Jenny Cornero, the Hatha Yoga experience encourages students to bend their bodies with sun salutations, followed by an intelligent sequence of asanas and relaxing Pranayama (breath work) poolside.  Inversions, backbends, forward bends, arm balances, twists and deep stretching are also part of the practice which ends with a deep Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation) that removes any remaining impurities to gather all the benefits of a deep unique experience.

Group yoga classes are priced at $20 per person or $120 for a private class for up to two guests with mats included. For the month of September, group classes will be 50% off and locals who sign up for any class during September will enter a raffle to win one free month of unlimited yoga classes.

The hotel will have mats available for rent for $2 per mat. This class is open to all levels. For more information or to book a class, please contact the National Hotel’s concierge at concierge@nationalhotel.com or visit nationalhotel.com.

  1. This is so great. I have spent the whole past month in planning something really exciting for our guests at Ekattva Yoga School, India for National Yoga Month. And here are the things that we finalized:

    1. Guided Tour of Parmartha Niketan Ashram and Blessings from Swami Chidanand Saraswati, the revered head of the ashram.

    2. City tour to help aspiring yoga teachers explore the birthplace of yoga.

    3. Guided trekking tour of Manikoot Parvat. This is a convenient trek located on the outskirts of Rishikesh in the Neelkantha Hills.

To mark the special month at your yoga school, we have decided to make the above part of our 200 hour yoga TT course (voluntary)

Yoga certainly deserves the month to itself and it’s great that yoga studios and lovers are making it so special.
