Miami-Dade Animal Services to participate in nationwide “Clear the Shelters” adoption effort

Clear-the-Shelter-webOn Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, Miami-Dade Animal Services will take part in the Clear the Shelters a nationwide effort – spearheaded by of NBCUniversal- to place shelter pets in forever homes by offering no-cost or reduced fee adoptions.

Locally, Animal Services is partnering with NBC 6 South Florida/WTVJ, Telemundo 51/WSCV, the Humane Society of Broward County, Humane Society of Greater Miami and Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division to help realize this goal.

Miami-Dade Animal Services will wave adoption fees on all pets. Adopters will only need to pay the $27 licensing fee for any dog adopted. Pet adoptions at Animal Services include spay/neuter surgery, microchip and age appropriate vaccinations.

Fee waived adoptions are supported by organizations such as Maddie’s Fund and the ASPCA based on studies which showed that offering free adoptions does not have a negative impact on the quality of the adoption or the level of commitment of the adopter.

Every week approximately 500 dogs and cats are abandoned by their owners at the Animal Services shelter where the objective to work diligently to find loving forever homes for the pets in its care. By adopting no kill polices as the guiding principle for pet rescue and steadfastly implementing life-saving programs, Miami-Dade County Animal Services has been able to save the highest number of shelter pets in the history of the department with a current combined save rate of 88%. Pet adoptions have had the highest impact on the save rate with an increase in pet adoptions both at the shelter and at close to 400 events throughout the community.

  1. I have my reservations about DADE ANIMAL SERVICES? I need to know why this service center does not do all the things which they are paid from our tax dollars? Every time I call I never gotten any services which is expected. They dont provide help for sick dogs, they dont provide any information that how long they keep a stray dog for adoption? Someone got to be specific
