The City of Miami Gardens Elderly Affairs Advisory Committee Presents 2nd Annual Community Safety and Awareness Forum

Tuesday, November 16, 2010 – 10:00 am- 12 Noon. Betty T. Ferguson Recreation Complex 3000 NW199 Street, Miami Gardens, Florida 33056

This very informative event will provide awareness of the many services, organizations, and programs available to citizens for their safety. Statistics proves that there are more security and safety incidents and /or accidents that occur during the celebrated periods of the year.

The fire death in the United States for Americans over the age of 65 is twice the rate of the national average. For those over 75, this jumps to three times the national average. There are steps Elder Adults can take to remain safe from a fire; whether living independently or in a care facility.

There will be live demonstrations, cautious information, hands on interactions, questions and answer sessions and giveaways. All citizens are invited to attend. Students from the local schools will participate, as well as numerous sponsors, agencies and organizations.

This forum is provided to insure our citizens are educated and well informed. It also serves as a safety precaution.

We look forward to your participation. Contact: Lillie Q. Odom ~ Community Outreach ~ 305-622-8000 xt. 2760

  1. What are your ways of informing the seniors of coming events? I come to the center, pay my dues, go exercise, sometimes use the fitness area or swim. I went on one trip a christmas pagent which was very nice. For January I could not find out about any trips or things the seniors were doing from the staff. I would like to particapate but don't know who to speak with. I play cards, could learn more about the computer, go to concerts, dances, casino, cruises. Thanks for your time.
