“Boomer” Geeki Girls Tech Conference Microsoft Sponsors Technology Conference for Women 40+

picIf you ever walked into a computer store and were too embarrassed to ask how to use the latest software, this is the conference is for you. Microsoft, the Economic Development Council of South Miami-Dade and Geeki Girls are joining forces to present the 1st Annual Boomer Girls Conference; Everything You Wanted To Know About Tech And Were Afraid To Ask. At the beautiful Palmetto Bay Village Center, 18001 Old Cutler Road, Palm Room, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157 on May 17, 2014, women will come together for a dynamic day of food, fun, fashion and of course exciting technology. Miami Dade County Commissioner Vice Chair the Lynda Bell, a sponsor of the event, will inspiring everyone as she addresses the audience on the importance of women being tech savvy in the 21st century.

Last February Geeki Girls hosted the 1st Annual Geeki Girls Can Do Anything Conference for middle school girls held at South Dade High School. The one thing we kept hearing over and over from the girls mother’s was, “this sounds exciting can I attend?” That conference was strictly for the girls. Partnering with the Economic Development Council of South Miami Dade Geeki Girls is mounting a full day seminar for Boomer Geeki Girls because technology is too much fun just for the young.

Microsoft will present three of their most popular workshops; Office 365 Small Business, Windows 8, and Skype Basics. For those of you continuing your education, Miami Dade College credits can be earned for these classes. Chef David, from the Villages, will prepare lunch and give a cooking demonstration of his popular creations. International model and mother of two, Heather Davis rounds out the day with an eye opening, behind the scenes REAL look at the models that grace the covers of the most popular magazines.

Woman wanting to know the ins and out for technology is on the rise. In an on-line article for Jezbel Doug Berry reported, Alexis Madrigal the senior editor at The Atlantic’s writes that time has come for tech companies to “realize that 40, 50, and 60-year-old women are driving the wide use some of the most important social networking technologies”…

The fastest growing and largest users on Skype are women. Everyone can agree woman are the world’s communicators, so it should not surprise us women, with the exception of LinkedIn, are the fastest-growing demographic and biggest users on every social networking website.

The EDC Board has earmarked all EDC profits for the May 17th Women’s Boomer Girl Tech Conference will be used to fund EDC Educational Programs at the Homestead Women’s Correctional Facility. The EDC in partnership with Miami Dade College Homestead and the LEAP for Ladies Organization provide Business Training Programs at the Women’s Correctional Facility for women within 15-18 months of being released. The LEAP program has been working with this Facility for about 4 years. Over 70 women have taken the course, with only one participate being re-incarcerated following her release.
