Annual Blue and White game on Jan. 30 at Coral Reef Park

The annual Blue and White game, a longstanding tradition for the Miami Palmetto High School Baseball team, will take place on Saturday, Jan. 30, on Panther Field at Coral Reef Park, 7895 SW 152 St. in Palmetto Bay.

This year’s event once again will highlight the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams in an intra-squad scrimmage to introduce the players for the spring season.

The event draws attendance from the Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay communities, alumni from Palmetto and local leaders. The band, cheerleaders and Panther mascots will be on hand to support the team.

This year, the Panthers welcome the Miracle League of Miami Dade (MLoMD), a non-profit group of Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay volunteers with a mission to construct a rubberized turf baseball field in Miami Dade County that accommodates wheelchairs and walkers, but also is designed to help prevent injuries and promote fun for children and adults with special needs.

In 2011, the MLoMD became the 236th Miracle League chapter in the United States and since that time the organization has been at work with exhibition games and fundraising. The specially designed outdoor ballpark facility will allow baseball access to the 68,000 special needs children and adults in Miami Dade.

The Panthers invite you to watch the Miracle League game from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the Blue and White games from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and a barbecu lunch and Panther apparel will be available for purchase.
