Palmetto Bay resident Gerald Grant Jr., branch director of financial planning for AXA Advisors LLC in Miami and author of Bold Moves to Creating Financial Wealth, has been named winner of the 2012 Darwin Davis Award for Community Service.

“ I have never met a more genuinely caring person,” said branch manager Luis Chiappy. “His motivation and drive are fueled by his desire to do well by doing good for others… his most important contribution is his tireless effort to volunteer, where he dedicates a substantial part of his time giving back, getting involved and making a difference.”

The community service award, named for the late Darwin Davis, AXA Equitable senior vice president, in honor of his longstanding dedication to community and the company, is presented to AXA Advisors financial professionals and AXA Equitable employees who have made extraordinary contributions in service, community development, community service and volunteerism.

The AXA Foundation will make a $10,000 contribution to the nonprofit organization of Grant’s choice.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” Grant said. “I was raised with the belief that giving back to the community — and making it a better place to live, both now and for the next generation — is extremely important. That is why I am involved in South Florida.”

Grant generously donates his time, shares his financial wisdom, conducts free community financial workshops and serves on the boards of many nonprofit, community and industry organizations. These include the Orange Bowl Committee, United Way of Miami-Dade, Florida International University, Florida A&M University, National Association of Insurance and Financial Services Professionals, Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church

In 2011, Grant was named winner of AXA Advisors’ highest honor, the National Honor Associate Award, as well as being inducted into the Miami Dade College Hall of Fame.
