Gulliver Schools has announced the appointment of Jonathan M. Schoenwald as the new principal of Gulliver Preparatory School.
Schoenwald joins the Gulliver family from Rocky Hill School, a private day school for grades preschool through 12 in Rhode Island. He most recently served as Rocky Hill’s head of school.
“With broad educational and administrative leadership spanning more than two decades, Jonathan brings a strong commitment to improving our students’ academic experience,” said John Krutulis, Gulliver’s director of schools. “We are thrilled to have him join the Gulliver family.”
Gulliver’s newly arrived head of schools, Frank Steel, added, “Jonathan is an established leader who enthusiastically embraces Gulliver’s vision and values. It is great having him join Gulliver together with me. He will work closely with our administration, faculty, parents and students — learning what they love about Gulliver and advancing its position as one of the top schools in the Southeast U.S.”
Schoenwald’s academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree and PhD in American history from Stanford University. During the course of his career, he has served as an honors college director at Hunter College of the City University of New York, a residential college dean and director of studies at Princeton University and a fellow in the humanities at Stanford University. Apublished author, Schoenwald has been an invited panelist and commentator at various conferences covering history and political culture.
“I am thrilled and honored to lead Gulliver into its next chapter. I share Gulliver’s commitment to further the school’s mission to provide unparalleled educational opportunities for its students,” Schoenwald said.
“A belief that has carried into my administrative roles, this commitment was the driving force when I started my career as an educator. It is with this energy that I look forward to guiding an ever-more-robust implementation of Gulliver’s growth plan.”
