John Dubois For Vice Mayor of Village of Palmetto Bay

John DuBois is the incumbent candidate seeking re-election as vice mayor of Palmetto Bay.

John DuBois is the incumbent candidate seeking re-election as vice mayor of Palmetto Bay. First elected to this seat in November 2012, he is a businessman, civic leader, and philanthropist who has spent his entire career in the telecommunications industry. In 2008, he founded Eyecast, a cloud-based video surveillance company where he presently serves as president and CEO. DuBois moved from Virginia to Palmetto Bay in 2001, just one year prior to Village incorporation.

During my first 100 days in office I would brief the village staff on my expectations for the highest level of Integrity in their interaction with the Palmetto Bay residents and the council as well the highest level of service. During my first term, I convinced the village management to provide customer service training to Palmetto Bay employees. I would encourage the new city manager to prioritize this and stress the importance that the residents are our customers. With this, they will learn to listen and focus on our most important issue: Traffic.

I would strongly urge the council to support my effort to have our Tallahassee representatives pass a state law to allow municipalities to have moratoriums against overbuilding in residential neighborhoods without adequate public transportation systems such as light rail. This would allow us to prohibit undesirable development that will compound the traffic nightmares our residents already experience during rush hour. Projects such as the proposed 485 new homes on Old Cutler Road in Palmetto Bay and the several hundred or more new homes for the old FPL property on the other end of Old Cutler must be stopped.

I will fight against decisions made using personal judgement by council members or staff rather than in the interests of the majority of people we represent such as with the Mayor (and my opponent who Mayor Flinn recruited) and his 485-home development on Old Cutler Road. I will call them out and stop them when I believe the interests of the majority of the residents are being sold out to developers, lobbyists, and outside interests. This requires council people who can put their egos and personal agendas aside and do the right thing. If re-elected, I will continue to fight for the interests of our residents.

Vice Mayor John DuBois attended American University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a B.S. in Economics and BA and Masters in Technology Management. He serves as a board member of Camillus House, the largest service provider to the homeless in Miami, and is a former board member with the Miami-Dade County Office of Economic Development and International Trade. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Educate Tomorrow. DuBois has served on the Board of the Deering Estate Foundation, on the Palmetto Bay Tree Advisory Committee, and is an ISA Certified Arborist.
