On Saturday, the Shotokan Karate Center of Miami located at 17225 S. Dixie Highway #103 Palmetto Bay, FL 33157 took a group of 13 athletes to compete at the SKIF National Championships. Under the guidance and coaching of their chief instructors Sensei Alex Jaramillo and Sensei Paola Jaramillo the team won 10 National Championship Medals!
Vernyia Taylor (Gold & Bronze), Iry Matin (Bronze), Michael Morgan (Bronze), Nicholas Couso (Gold & Bronze), Kendrick Michel (Bronze), Joshua Juarez (Bronze), Chris Veverka (Silver & Bronze). And an honorable mention for an outstanding performance to Polex Jaramillo, Ryan Winterick, Max Suthasinetal, Aiden Camacho, Alonso Duarte and Maxwell Juarez.
“The team has been working really hard for the last couple of weeks in preparation for this event. I am really proud of all the athletes. Not only are they excelling in the dojo but all the students are also excelling with their academics. It was a tournament debut for most of the competitors and to win at this event shows a lot of focus and determination.” Said Sensei Alex Jaramillo who is the Chief instructor and teaches competitor and non competitor classes. “There were competitors from as far as San Francisco and Texas. This was a high level competition and to win at this tournament was not an easy task.” The dojo students are now starting to train using a variation of plyometric and cardiovascular routines to compliment their karate in preparation for the USA Karate National Champions and Team Trials which will be held at the Broward Convention Center next summer.
