Palmetto Middle won the Miami-Dade County girls track and field junior varsity championship with its 4X100-meter relay team on Feb. 11 at Southridge High School.

The team was anchored by Victoria Karr who also won the junior varsity 100- meter championship race. She placed third in the 200-meter finals. During the Miami Junior Varsity Invitational meet in January the 4X100 team set a meet record in winning. Karr won the 100-meter race and the 200-meter race that the day with the fastest time. The leadoff 4X100-meter runner was Fairy Stringfield, followed by Navaeh Ezell, Justyce Hill and Karr as the anchor.

The 100-meter individual winner was Karr. Hill placed second in the 100-meter run, second in the 200 meters, and second in the 400-meter run. She earned a trophy for competing in the most events. Stringfield was third in the 400-meter final and fourth in the 800-meter final.

Lexi Momplaiser won the discus and shot put championships. Makayla Gardner was sixth in the high jump.

The girls were coached by Mallie Brown. There were more than 40 middle schools competing in all of the seven events but only the top eight fastest made it to the finals.
